Dance is an essential skill in any performer’s repertoire. Whether you are developing your skills as an experienced dancer or you’re looking practice the basics, Popovsky Performing Arts Studio offers you the opportunity to develop your dance technique and express yourself through movement.
Some students are just beginning their dance training and some have been dancing from a very young age. Regardless of skill level, we want to give every student the opportunity to add new skills to their theatrical repertoire. At PPAS we offer classes that cater to beginners, advanced students and anywhere in between. Our students will practice, ballet tap and jazz, recognizing the importance of the fundamentals of dance and also stylized musical theatre techniques.
Our classes are scheduled by age group and designed around the students enrolled. We strive to provide our students with obtainable goals and challenge them to be the best performers they can be. Click on the links below to view specific class descriptions! We hope to see you this fall!
Creative Movement 3-5 years: Thursday 5:15-6:00pm
In creative movement children, ages Pre K – K will explore the 4 key areas of dance and movement, body, space, energy and time. Students will work on coordination and spatial awareness while dancing and creating their own movement. In class, we will work on using different rhythms and patterns to create movement while stimulating the students' imagination. This class is a great way to get students channeling their energy into a fun and structured activity where they can explore how their bodies move in space. This class will meet on Thursday from 5:15-6:00pm starting March 15th to May 31st.
Just Getting Started – Dance
1-3rd Grade Dance Class: Wednesdays 6:15-7:00pm
In this combined skills class, students will explore the basics of 3 main dance styles, ballet, tap, and jazz. We will spend the first 3rd of the class working on basic ballet skills and terminology while incorporating movement games into class. The second 20 minutes of the class we will focus on basic tap steps where students will experience creating different rhythms and sounds while moving. Lastly, the students will practice stretching and beginner jazz steps to eventually integrate into a combination. This class will meet on Wednesdays from 6:15-7:00pm starting March 14th to May 30th.
4th/5th Jazz and Tap: Tuesdays 5:00-6:00pm
In this combined skills class, the student will perform basic to more intermediate steps in both jazz and tap. Half of the class will be spent practicing basic tap steps that will then be turned into rhythmic combinations. The student will explore musicality in both styles of dance, practicing how to count music and follow different tempos. During the other half of the hour, the student will work on stretching and properly warming up their body for movement. They will also practice a variety of basic turns and leaps to prepare them for a higher level of class. They will practice performing combinations to help with coordination and memory. This class will have a focus on musical theater style jazz but will also explore basic jazz vocabulary and music selections. This class will meet on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:00pm starting March 13th to May 29th.
High School Audition Prep- Fridays 5:00-6:00 PM
Middle School Dance Class – Audition Prep: Wednesday 7:00 – 8:00pm
Want to improve your steps to nail your next dance audition? In this class, the student will practice all disciplines necessary to excel in an audition setting. In this combined skills class, the student will work on ballet technique to set the foundation for other styles. They will also spend time practicing and combining tap steps to create different rhythms. The student will work on leaps, turns, and other special jazz skills to highlight them in auditions. The jazz portions of this class will have a focus in musical theater but will also explore basic jazz vocabulary and music selections. This class will meet on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00pm starting March 14th to May 30th.
